Reminders of Him Reviews & RT Score Make It Best Colleen Hoover Movie Yet
Reminders of Him is set to release this week, and ahead of the film’s premiere, reviews have begun pouring in, and point to one of the most well-received Colleen Hoover movies yet.
What are the Reminders of Him reviews saying?
On Rotten Tomatoes, Reminders of Him has debuted with a 67% score, a slight drop from what it originally debuted to (70%). Despite the mixed score, the movie is still much higher than any other Colleen Hoover movie to date, with This Ends With Us (55%) and Regretting You (29%) both placing lower than it.
Associated Press’ Mark Kennedy called the movie “a well-crafted, well-acted sad-happy Hoover adaptation,” while Us Weekly’s Erin Strecker said “you’ll cry. But as with all good redemption stories, viewers will also leave hopeful about future possibilities.”
TheWrap’s William Bibbiani also enjoyed the movie, saying it features “a whole lot of pretty good and not a lot of amazing, but hey, remember how Tyriq Withers also starred in ‘Him?’ No one can say they got the title wrong.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck said the movie manages to “sweep you into the melodramatic proceedings… It helps that the characters are all sympathetic and appealingly played.”
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman calls the movie “notably restrained — a good thing more than not, even if the film does get a bit languid at times. It tells its story without making us feel used.” IndieWire’s Kate Erbland says the movie is “not a slam-dunk,” but “is easily the best Hoover film adaptation yet, bolstered by strong performances and an emotional center that does not primarily rely on some kind of tortured romance (though, that’s there, too!).”
“After a perfect outing with her boyfriend, Kenna makes an unbearable mistake that sends her to prison. Seven years later, Kenna returns to her hometown in Wyoming, hoping to rebuild her life and earn the chance to reunite with her young daughter, Diem, whom she has never known,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
Reminders of Him stars Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, along with Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, Lainey Wilson, and Nicholas Duvernay. The film is directed by Vanessa Caswill and written by Colleen Hoover and Lauren Levine. The movie is based on Hoover’s novel of the same name, which was published in 2022.
