Harry Potter Star Details Cast’s Reaction to That Devil Wears Prada Scene

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe recently spoke about the scene in The Devil Wears Prada, which involved Anne Hathaway’s character trying to find copies of an unpublished “Harry Potter” installment. Radcliffe and some other cast members saw it as pure fantasy because of how well guarded the Harry Potter books and their storylines were before publication.

Daniel Radcliffe reveals how Harry Potter cast reacted to that Devil Wears Prada scene

The Devil Wears Prada has been noted for its realistic portrayal of the industry, but Daniel Radcliffe and other members of the Harry Potter cast believe that one scene in the film was more of a fantasy.

Those who have watched the film would remember the iconic sequence in which Meryl Streep’s editor, Miranda Priestley, commands her assistant, Andrea Sachs, to secure copies of the next Harry Potter book, which was still unpublished. However, Radcliffe believes that this was quite an exuberant task that would not have been realistically possible.

During his appearance on Bustle’s One Nightstand podcast, Daniel Radcliffe was asked if he and his castmates were ever given early access to the unpublished novels or storylines. Radcliffe responded, “No, you had to wait ’til drop day, as well. I remember in the movie The Devil Wears Prada, there’s like a subplot that she has to find a version of Harry Potter before [it’s published]. I remember we all saw that and were like, ‘Good luck.'”

Asserting that Bloomsbury kept things very private till the last moment, Radcliffe revealed that J.K. Rowling sometimes told a detail or two to some cast members about the future. Still, the majority of them, including the entire youth ensemble, remained oblivious to any development. “I think Alan Rickman was the only person from the cast who was told anything in advance.”

Previously, Bonnie Wright also told Nylon (via Digital Spy) that the scene in The Devil Wears Prada would have never happened. “Actually, the most grating thing I’ve ever seen in a movie is in The Devil Wears Prada, when those two little kids get the Harry Potter books ahead of time,” she said, “I was like, ‘Are you kidding? That would never, ever, ever happen!'”
