Woman Who Allegedly Shot at Rihanna’s Home Charged With Attempted Murder

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles Police Department, along with reports from the Los Angeles Times and NBC News, said a Florida woman faces an attempted murder charge after authorities say she fired multiple shots at musician Rihanna’s Los Angeles home.

Prosecutors charged Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, of Orlando, Florida, with one count of attempted murder after she allegedly fired a semiautomatic rifle at the singer’s Beverly Crest residence on March 8. The shooting did not injure anyone.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that Ortiz also faces 10 felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. According to prosecutors, the incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. when Ortiz allegedly drove up to the front of the home in the 9500 block of Heather Road and fired several rounds at the property.

Multiple people were present at the residence when the shooting occurred, authorities said. Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, and their three children were inside the home along with others. No one suffered injuries. At least one bullet struck and penetrated the side of the house. Bullets also left what appeared to be holes in the front gate.

Police said the suspect used a white Tesla parked across the street during the shooting. Someone called 911 to report the gunfire. Officers located the vehicle about 30 minutes later in a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks. Officers detained Ortiz and searched the vehicle. They recovered an assault rifle and seven casings.

“Opening fire in any populated neighborhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted,” Hochman said. “Thankfully, no one was injured in this shooting, but this careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons.”

Police arrested Ortiz shortly after the incident. Prosecutors later filed charges, and the court scheduled her arraignment for March 25 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Prosecutors said she faces up to life in state prison if convicted. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division continues to investigate the case.
