Reports say Hugh Jackman sang at Rupert Murdoch’s 95 birthday party

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, founder of News Corp and a key figure behind outlets including Fox News, marked his 95th birthday with a celebration in New York City, where Australian actor Hugh Jackman performed, according to PEOPLE. The event took place Saturday evening at The Grill in Midtown Manhattan. Jackman sang selections from The Greatest Showman and several classic standards during the gathering.

Hugh Jackman performed songs and sang “Fly Me to the Moon” and “New York, New York” before closing with Peter Allen’s “I Still Call Australia Home,” a source in attendance told PEOPLE. Ivanka Trump attended the party and was “cheering him on,” the source said. The actor has previously said of his friendship with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, “I’ve known those guys for 15 years, and we don’t talk politics at birthday parties.”

Rupert Murdoch attended the event with his wife Elena Zhukova, whom he married in 2024, and his son Lachlan Murdoch, who is expected to inherit control of the family’s media empire. Murdoch’s media empire includes outlets such as Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post. James Murdoch, Elisabeth Murdoch, and Prudence MacLeod did not attend following a dispute over the Murdoch family trust.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, and U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum attended the celebration alongside political and business figures from media and sport. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also attended the event. President Donald Trump sent a video message describing Murdoch as “legendary” and “one of a kind.”
