Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 Finally Gets New Release Date Report
New information seems to have surfaced about the next chapter in the Extraction franchise. A recent report has provided an update on the production timeline for the upcoming sequel starring Chris Hemsworth. The development offers a clearer look at when the third installment in the action series, Extraction 3, could begin filming.
Chris Hemsworth reported to film Extraction 3 this year
Extraction 3 is scheduled to begin principal photography in June 2026, according to production listings reported by What’s on Netflix. The film continues the action franchise starring Chris Hemsworth as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake. The project was first announced during Netflix Tudum in 2023, confirming the third installment of the series.
Filming is currently scheduled to run through October 9, 2026. The production will reportedly take place in Sydney, Australia, the home country of Chris Hemsworth. Sources cited in the report also state that the production will film some portions in Europe during the summer, although the team has not confirmed the exact locations.
Sam Hargrave will direct the third film after helming the previous two installments. AGBO, the company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo, is producing the project, with Joe Russo likely to write the screenplay. Producers on the film include Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin, while Fraser Taggart will handle cinematography.
The Extraction franchise is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo. The films follow Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary tasked with international rescue operations. Joe Russo has said the team is looking to “find more interesting ways to tell these stories” beyond Tyler Rake’s storyline (via What’s on Netflix).
Additional projects within the franchise are also in development. Netflix has greenlit an eight-episode spin-off series titled Mercenary starring Omar Sy, which centers on a mercenary involved in a hostage rescue mission in Libya. Another spin-off film titled Tygo stars Don Lee as a former child soldier turned mercenary operating in South Korea’s criminal underworld.
