Rambo Prequel Movie Update Is What Sylvester Stallone Fans Want to Hear
The Rambo prequel has received some exciting news.
Lionsgate is currently making a Rambo prequel film titled John Rambo. The sixth installment in the Rambo series, the movie is directed by Jalmari Helander and stars Noah Centineo as the titular character. Production is currently underway.
What is the update on the Rambo prequel movie?
Per Deadline, it has now been announced that Sylvester Stallone, who famously played Rambo in all of the franchise’s other entries, will executive produce the prequel movie.
Stallone announced his involvement on Instagram, saying, “Rambo has been part of my life for a very long time. A character built on resilience, survival, and the scars of war. He’s meant a lot to me and to audiences around the world for decades. Now we’re going back to where his story begins. I’m excited to be executive producing @JohnRamboFilm, exploring the early chapter of the man before the legend.”
This marks the first time that Stallone has ever executive-produced a Rambo movie; however, he has been involved behind-the-scenes in other ways. He worked on the screenplays for all five of the previous movies, while he also directed the fourth entry, which was simply titled Rambo.
The script for John Rambo comes from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. In addition to Centineo, the cast includes Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (Warrior), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Hellboy: The Crooked Man), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Adam Fogelson said, “Sylvester Stallone knows the character of John Rambo better than anyone, and Lionsgate has had the good fortune of partnering with Sly for more than 20 years on this legendary IP. His participation is the final, critical piece to John Rambo, and we’re thrilled to have his involvement.”
The Rambo prequel movie does not yet have a release date.
