What happens in the Broken Bird trailer?

The video introduces Rebecca Calder (The Conjuring: Last Rites) as a mortician whose grief and loneliness led her to begin having delusions of falling in love with a local man at the new funeral home where she works. This obsession turns more twisted, as it turns out the man she’s fantasizing about is actually dead. The trailer highlights how far she’ll go just to protect her disturbing fantasy.

Broken Bird is directed by Joanne Mitchell, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dominic Brunt and Tracey Sheals, based on Mitchell’s short film Sybil. The cast also includes James Fleet, Jay Taylor, Sacharissa Claxton, and Robyn Rainsford. It is produced by Zoe Stewart, Holly Levow, Mark Pennell, and Paul Kampf. Since its world premiere at the 2024 FrightFest in London, the film has received a perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 15 reviews.

“Broken Bird is exactly the kind of bold, character-driven filmmaking that defines Catalyst Studios,” Catalyst Studios boss Holly Levow said in a statement. “Joanne Mitchell has crafted a haunting and emotionally resonant film that stays with you long after the credits roll, and Rebecca Calder delivers a truly unforgettable performance. We’re thrilled to bring this powerful debut to audiences nationwide.”
