OG Ghostbusters Star Jennifer Runyon Dies at 65
Actress Jennifer Runyon, known for her role in the 1984 Ghostbusters, has died at the age of 65. A close friend of the actress broke the news with a Facebook post earlier today, along with the reason behind Runyon’s untimely passing.
Jennifer Runyon passes away at 65 after ‘brief battle with cancer’
On Friday, March 6, actress Jennifer Runyon, 65, passed away after battling cancer. Erin Murphy, Runyon’s friend, made a Facebook post announcing the actress’s death on March 8. She wrote, “So sad to share that my friend Jennifer Runyon Corman has passed away after a brief battle with cancer.”
Murphy added, “Some people you just know you’ll be friends with before you even meet. She was a special lady. I’ll miss you, Jenn. My thoughts are with your family and beautiful children.”
Later, the late actress’s family also posted a heartwarming tribute on Facebook (via TMZ). They wrote, “This past Friday night, our beloved Jennifer passed away. It was a long and arduous journey that ended with her surrounded by her family. She will always be remembered for her love of life and her devotion to her family and friends. I know from above she’s looking down on all of us with her beautiful smile. Rest in peace, our Jenn.”
Currently, there is very little information on what cancer the late actress was diagnosed with.
The Charles in Charge actress was born on April 1, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. She began her acting career in 1980 with To All a Goodnight, and later rose to fame with her role as Sally Frame in ABC’s soap opera Another World.
She appeared on the show between 1981 and 1983 across 111 episodes. Subsequently, the actress also appeared in Ghostbusters in a minor role and Up the Creek as Heather Merriweather, both released in 1984.
Runyon then went on to star in the CBS sitcom Charles in Charge as Gwendolyn Pierce, appearing between 1984 and 1987. She later succeeded Susan Olsen as Cindy Brady in A Very Brady Christmas. Her later works include the coming-of-age drama The in Crowd, the body-swap comedy 18 Again!, and the whodunnit series Murder, She Wrote, among others.
Runyon married Todd Corman in 1991, and they had two children, Wyatt and Bayley. In 2014, she’d reportedly said that she had semi-retired from acting and was working as a teacher.
