Karl Urban ‘would love to’ come back as Judge Dredd in reboot

Karl Urban, known for playing Billy Butcher on The Boys, was recently on The Discourse podcast to promote his new movie, The Bluff, when he spoke about how he would love to reprise his role as Judge Dredd.

In July 2025, The Hollywood Reporter reported that director Taika Waititi is set to direct a new Judge Dredd movie. However, the chances of Urban appearing in the upcoming film are very slim.

On the podcast, Urban addressed whether there is a possibility of him returning as Dredd and stated, “I would love to reprise that role in a heartbeat. I really would. I had so much fun making that movie. If I’m not part of it, then I’m all good with it. I just want to see more Dredd stories.” According to the aforementioned outlet, Drew Pearce is on board to write the script for the new Judge Dredd project. However, the movie’s plot details are currently under wraps.

The character of Judge Dredd was created in the 1970s by Carlos Ezquerra and writer John Wagner. He first made his live-action debut in 1995 with the Judge Dredd movie starring Sylvester Stallone in the titular role. However, the movie didn’t fare well with critics and audiences. Urban’s 2012 movie, on the other hand, was praised by many critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds an 80 percent Tomatometer rating based on critic reviews. It also has a 72 percent score on the Popcornmeter, based on audience reviews.
