Denzel Washington’s Netflix Roman War Movie Gets Exciting Update

A brand-new update for Academy Award winner Denzel Washington‘s next collaboration with Training Day director Antoine Fuqua has finally been revealed. This comes over two years after Washington and Fuqua’s Roman war movie Hannibal was first announced by Netflix.

What’s the new update for Denzel Washington’s Netflix war movie?

According to World of Reel, Netflix is reportedly planning to start the production of the Hannibal biopic in June. It has also been revealed that acclaimed cinematographer Robert Richardson, who’s best known for his works on The Aviator, Kill Bill, and Inglourious Basterds, has been tapped for the project. At the moment, the streamer has yet to announce the film’s official cast and target release date.

In the upcoming war film, Washington will play a Carthaginian general who famously led an army of warriors and elephants across the Alps to fight the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. It will be directed by Fuqua, with Oscar-nominated scribe John Logan writing the screenplay. In addition to leading the cast, the Gladiator II star will also serve as producer along with Fuqua for Hill District Media.

This marks the sixth collaboration between Washington and Fuqua, which began with 2001’s Training Day. Their most recent movie together was 2023’s The Equalizer 3, which saw Washington’s return as Robert McCall. Before playing Hannibal, Washington recently reunited with Spike Lee for 2025’s crime thriller movie Highest 2 Lowest. He will next be seen in Simon Kinberg’s star-studded heist movie Here Comes the Flood with Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
