Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who served as a producer on the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, recently gave an update on a prospective sequel to the Liam Neeson film. Following its release, The Naked Gun reboot made over $102 million at the global box office and currently has an 87% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes.
The Naked Gun 2 receives new update from Seth MacFarlane
MacFarlane spoke about The Naked Gun 2 during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter while promoting Season 2 of the Peacock series Ted. “I know everyone would love to, including Liam,” MacFarlane noted. “We have not heard anything yet. I think it’s all up to Paramount.”
This comes after Neeson expressed interest in doing the sequel, though he mentioned that he hadn’t heard anything about it. “I honestly don’t know,” the Taken star told Entertainment Tonight last month. “I haven’t been approached. Yeah, sure. Obviously, if the script was good, Pamela [Anderson] was available and Danny Huston, hopefully. But, no, there’s been no phone calls. It’s nothing. And I think it did okay at the box office.”
Before that, Akiva Schaffer, the director of the reboot, said there were no plans for a sequel at the time, citing the ownership changes at Paramount. However, Schaffer did reveal that Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who developed the script with him, had “a list of gags” for the potential second movie. Further, Schaffer and producer Erica Huggins disclosed that they had ideas for the project.
The Naked Gun stars Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Frank Drebin. The cast also includes Anderson as Beth Davenport, Huston as Richard Cane, Paul Walter Hauser as Capt. Ed Hocken Jr., CCH Pounder as Chief Davis, and Liza Koshy as Detective Barnes.
