Christian Bale Reacts to Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Bold’ New American Psycho Movie

Academy Award winner Christian Bale has finally shared his thoughts about director Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming reimagining of American Psycho, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel of the same name. Bale famously starred in the novel’s first movie adaptation in 2000, where he delivered an iconic performance as narcissistic serial killer Patrick Bateman.

What did Christian Bale say about the new American Psycho movie?

When asked if he has any picks on who could play the next Patrick Bateman in the new American Psycho movie during a recent interview with THR, Bale decided not to drop any names by encouraging every actor who wants it to do it to just give it a shot. He also acknowledged Guadagnino’s “bold choice” of adapting the controversial novel.

“Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop,” Bale said. “I loved making it with [director] Mary Harron so many years back, fantastic memories of it all. Bold choice of anyone to try to do a — I don’t know if they’re doing a remake or what, I don’t know anything else about it. But all the best to ’em, I like brave people.”

The highly anticipated reimagining of American Psycho will be directed by Guadagnino, with Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) writing the screenplay. At the moment, Lionsgate has yet to make any official announcement about its cast. A recent report suggested that the studio might be having a difficult time finding the right actor to play the new Patrick Bateman, as it has been rumored that multiple high-profile actors have been turning down the role.

The American Psycho novel was originally adapted into the 2000 movie by director and co-writer Mary Harron. The movie featured an all-star cast consisting of Bale, Jared Leto, Willem Dafoe, Reese Witherspoon, Justin Theroux, Josh Lucas, and Chloe Sevigny. It centered around a young and wealthy businessman who has a hidden personality. He may look like the perfect guy from the outside, but he’s actually a rising psychopathic serial killer who murders innocent people because of their insignificant mistakes.
