2018’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls is out now on Netflix. The movie is directed by Eli Roth, from a screenplay written by Eric Kripke (The Boys), and is based on the 1973 book of the same name by John Bellairs. The book is the first a long line of novels based around the character of Lewis Barnavelt, the main character of the movie.

The film follows the story of a young boy, Lewis, who is sent to live with his uncle in an old house that used to be inhabited by a villainous warlock.

“Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his oddball uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious ticktock noise. He soon learns that Uncle Jonathan and his feisty neighbor, Mrs. Zimmerman, are powerful practitioners of the magic arts. Alongside Black, The House with a Clock in Its Walls also stars Cate Blanchett, Owen Vaccaro, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Sunny Suljic, Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Lorenza Izzo, and Vanessa Ann Williams. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the movie was a box office success. The film grossed over $130 million at the global box office, and most reviews praised the ensemble cast despite the film’s issues.
