Project Hail Mary Box Office Projections Predict Biggest Opening of 2026 Thus Far
It’s looking like Project Hail Mary is going to be a big hit at the box office.
Project Hail Mary is being released in United States theaters next month by Amazon MGM Studios. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the movie is based on a 2021 novel by Andy Weir and sees Ryan Gosling, who is also a producer on the project, play a character named Dr. Ryland Grace.
How much is Project Hail Mary predicted to make at the box office during its opening weekend?
Per Deadline, Project Hail Mary is currently tracking to make $50 million in North America during its opening weekend.
If it hits that $50 million figure, Project Hail Mary could have the best domestic opening for a 2026 movie thus far. That title currently belongs to Wuthering Heights, which made $32 million. Having said that, Scream 7 is likely to break that record this weekend, as Variety is now saying it’s expected to make somewhere between $40 and $50 million.
Still, if Project Hail Mary manages to beat Scream 7, the only other movie coming out first that may have a shot at making more is Pixar’s Hoppers, which arrives on March 6. After Project Hail Mary, April’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will then likely take the crown.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, meanwhile, has also hit tracking, as that movie is currently expected to make around $11 million during its opening weekend. That’s technically an improvement from the first movie, as that film made $8 million; however, Ready or Not was also released on a Wednesday, with its five-day gross being $11 million.
Of course, as is always the case when discussing box office predictions, things can easily change in the coming days and weeks.
Both Project Hail Mary and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come arrive on March 20, 2026.
