MCU Star Says ‘Boycott Scream 7’ Following Melissa Barrera Firing

One star who is no stranger to speaking up is now calling on fans to boycott Scream 7 following Melissa Barrera’s firing in 2023.

Tatiana Maslany, who has starred in projects like Orphan Black, The Monkey, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, took to Instagram to share a post about Scream 7. In it, she called for fans to boycott the film after Barrera was fired three years ago for sharing posts on Instagram.

The post itself is from user Lucas Febraro. He details the issues regarding the film, including the history behind Barrera’s firing. He also calls on fans to boycott the film due to Paramount’s involvement.

In 2024, Spyglass Media Pictures fired the actress for taking to Instagram to share a story in support of Palestine amidst the ongoing conflict. In her story, Barrera said that Palestine would be free, and said she — a Mexican-born woman — also came from a colonized country. Since then, she’s continued to advocate for Palestinians on her social media.

Director Christopher Landon also left the project following Barrera’s firing, leading to Kevin Williamson taking over directing duties. Jenna Ortega also left the movie, which she later revealed had a lot to do with Barrera and Landon leaving the film.

The seventh installment also stars Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Joel McHale, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.
