Hamnet Streaming Release Date Set for Oscars Movie Favorite Starring Jessie Buckley
Peacock has announced the streaming release date for Hamnet, the award-winning movie starring Oscar favorite Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.
“William Shakespeare (Mescal) falls for the free-spirited Agnes (Jessie Buckley),” the official synopsis reads. “Their whirlwind romance leads to marriage and three children, but as Will’s theatrical ambitions draw him to London, Agnes remains behind to manage the household. When tragedy strikes, their bond is deeply tested—but their remarkable journey ultimately inspires the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.”
When is the Hamnet streaming release date?
Hamnet will begin streaming on Peacock on March 6, 2026, less than two weeks before the 2026 Oscars.
Besides Buckley and Mescal, Hamnet stars Emily Watson as Mary Shakespeare, Joe Alwyn as Bartholomew Hathaway, Jacobi Jupe as Hamnet Shakespeare, Olivia Lynes as Judith Shakespeare, Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Susanna Shakespeare, and Noah Jupe as the actor who plays Hamlet in the play.
Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao directs Hamnet from a screenplay she co-wrote with Maggie O’Farrell, based on the latter’s bestselling novel. Producers include Steven Spielberg, Sam Mendes, Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, and Nicolas Gonda. Hamnet opened to a positive reception and boasts a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hamnet has garnered significant critical acclaim, becoming one of the most nominated films during awards season. Hamnet won two Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Actress in a Drama (Buckley). At the BAFTAs, Hamnet won Outstanding British Film and Best Leading Actress.
Buckley enters the Oscars as the odds-on favorite to win Best Actress. Buckley’s next chance to win a prize comes at the Actor Awards (formerly SAG Awards) on March 1, 2026. Buckley and Mescal received nominations for female and male actors in leading roles. The Hamnet cast is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Overall, Hamnet received eight Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Actress in a Leading Role, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design, Achievement in Casting, Original Score, and Production Design.
