Star Wars: Disney Worried About New Movie Following Polarizing Super Bowl Commercial
Disney is concerned about the recent Super Bowl spot for the new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in United States theaters this coming May by Lucasfilm. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film serves as a continuation of the popular Disney+ show The Mandalorian. Pedro Pascal reprises his role as Din Djarin.
During the Super Bowl, Disney and Lucasfilm released a new TV spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu. The 36-second commercial confused many audiences, as it doesn’t appear to include any footage from the actual movie; rather, it just shows the two titular characters sitting in a wagon being pulled by some Tauntauns through a snowy tundra and offers no real insight into the film’s actual plot.

What is the update on Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu?
According to Variety, this Super Bowl spot has ignited some “concerns” within Disney and Lucasfilm, as the commercial “failed to generate the kind of excitement the marketing team was hoping to spark.”
The article continues, “The film itself is something of a question mark, given that it’s based on a streaming series and, consequently, may not seem like a big-screen proposition for any but the most die-hard Baby Yoda lovers.”
Whether or not Star Wars fans will truly turn up for The Mandalorian and Grogu remains to be seen, as no box office tracking information regarding the movie is available at this time. This will be the first theatrically released Star Wars movie in over six years, though there’s been no shortage of shows and other projects that have since been released on Disney+.
With a supporting cast that includes Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives on May 22, 2026.
