Jason Statham-led Death Race to stream on Peacock next month
The R-rated action thriller Death Race, headlined by Jason Statham, is set to join the streaming lineup on Peacock on March 1, 2026. The film, written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, was originally released in U.S. theaters on August 22, 2008.
Death Race follows Jensen Ames, portrayed by Statham. He is a former racing champion who is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and sentenced to life in prison. He is transferred to Terminal Island, a maximum-security facility where inmates compete in a violent car race that is streamed to online viewers. The prison is overseen by Warden Claire Hennessey, portrayed by Joan Allen, who runs the deadly competition as a profitable form of entertainment.
Hennessey gives Ames a choice. He can step into the role of a masked driver known as Frankenstein and compete in the race, or spend the rest of his life behind bars. Hoping to win his freedom, Ames agrees to take part. However, as the races continue, he begins to realize that there is more behind his arrest.
The supporting cast features Ian McShane as Coach, Tyrese Gibson as Joseph Mason, Natalie Martinez as Case, and Max Ryan as Slovo Pachenko, among others. Furthermore, upon release, Death Race received mixed reviews. It holds a 41% critics’ score based on 155 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, the audience reception was comparatively stronger with a 60% rating on the site’s Popcornmeter.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed approximately $76 million worldwide. This includes more than $36 million from domestic territories and about $39 million from international markets.
