While walking the red carpet, Franco shared an honest look at his younger self during an interaction with Entertainment Tonight. He said he was “shy,” “awkward,” and “anxious.” The interviewer joked that he clearly stepped up his “game” since he now has Alison Brie by his side.

Franco smiled at the comment. He then shifted to a more thoughtful tone. With their ninth wedding anniversary coming up. He kept his answer simple. “Honestly, I think it’s about being friends more than anything else.”

“It’s like you’ve got to want to hang out with this person. This is the person you’re going to spend more time with than anyone, so you’ve got to want to hang with them. You’ve got to be able to laugh with them. I don’t care if someone doesn’t think they’re funny. You can be funny to the right person. Find that person you can laugh with, and that’s so, so important.”

Franco and Brie tied the knot in March 2017. Since then, the couple have worked on multiple projects together. In 2025, they returned to the screen with Together. They played a couple whose lives and even bodies become intertwined.

Nearly a decade into marriage, Franco believes the key is simple: stay friends and keep laughing together.
