James Gunn Shares Marvel’s Own Batwoman From Guardians Vol. 3
James Gunn recently looked back on his time with the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new social media post. On Threads, the DC Studios co-CEO shared a picture of a character with pointy ears from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. He jokingly labeled this character Batwoman, referring to the popular DC Comics character of the same name.
James Gunn shows ‘a different kind of Batwoman’ in Marvel
Taking to Threads, the Superman director shared a picture of an alien with pointy bat ears. The alien, sitting on a chair beside a dining table, sports short black hair and wears a white dotted sweater with pink and blue patterns of different shapes and sizes.
“A different kind of Batwoman from Guardians Vol 3.,” James Gunn captioned the post.
The character in the post is Neelie. Played by Darla Delgado, she has a supporting part in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. In the film, she is a vampire bat who was taken from Earth along with her husband, Till, by High Evolutionary. The geneticist subjected the couple to various experiments to force them to evolve as part of Batch 92. The pair was then placed on Counter-Earth.
Sometime after this, the Guardians of the Galaxy visited her home, hoping to learn about Mowtios. Despite the language barrier, Neelie helped them by drawing the Mowtios and directing them to Arête Laboratories. Star-Lord thanked her for helping them before taking Neelie’s car to drive to the laboratories, inadvertently crashing it.
Interestingly, Gunn isn’t the only one who referred to Delgado’s character as “Batwoman.” The actress herself gave the character the nickname in an Instagram post promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’s digital release. She referred to her as “NEELIE the bat woman!”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is streaming on Disney+. It marks James Gunn’s final project with Marvel Studios before his full transition into the DC Universe.
The film’s cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Will Poulter, Sean Gunn, and Chukwudi Iwuji, among others.
