Scream 7’s Neve Campbell Teases How Horror Movie Will Differ From 5 & 6

Scream 7 star Neve Campbell teased how the upcoming horror movie will differ from the previous two entries in the franchise.

What did Neve Campbell say about Scream 7?

After sitting out Scream 6, Campbell returns to the iconic saga as Sidney Prescott for the seventh outing.

Scream 5 and 6 were the first two movies in the franchise without iconic director Wes Craven, who died in 2015. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence brought tone to these movies, especially in their depiction of violence. Campbell explained how those two movies might have gone “a bit far” with the gore.

“I had felt that those last 2 were sort of went in a direction that was sort of off path with Wes, with how he did gore, or how he did the killings,” Campbell told Evolution Of Horror. “I had felt that, for my personal preference, it was a bit far. If it’s grounded, it’s okay. It’s going to be more effective if it’s grounded.”

Despite pulling back on some of the gore, Campbell assured audiences that it’s still a Scream movie. There will be some bloody kills.

“For the people who love gore, it’s definitely there,” Campbell added.

In Scream 7, Sidney has moved to a quiet town to start a new life with her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May). However, Sidney’s peace is short-lived as a new Ghostface killer targets Tatum. “Determined to protect her family,” the official synopsis reads, “Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”

Scream 7’s ensemble features Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, Mark Consuelos, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley.

Scream writer Kevin Williamson directs the seventh movie from a screenplay he co-authored with Guy Busick. Scream 7 is based on a story by Busick and James Vanderbilt.

Scream 7 opens in theaters on February 27.
