Hoppers’ First Reactions Are Saying the Same Thing About Pixar Movie

First reactions and reviews for Pixar’s first 2026 release, Hoppers, have surfaced ahead of its theatrical release. The reviews praise the film’s style and visuals, among other positive aspects. The animated film recently premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and is scheduled to hit the big screen next month.

People are loving Pixar’s Hoppers in first reaction

Reviews for Hoppers highlight its visuals and the emotions driving its storytelling.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit summed up his thoughts on the film with one sentence. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Pixar’s HOPPERS is lunacy and is pretty awesome.”

Meanwhile, Germain Lussier of io9 and Gizmodo said in his review that he went to see the movie harboring zero expectations and excitement. He labeled it a “top-tier film,” noting that while it was “adorable, funny, and emotional,” it also took “chances” and became “dark” and “creepy” at points. “It’s truly special,” he added.

Journalist Ashley Carter opined that Hoppers is “one of Pixar’s best movies in years.” She praised the animation, calling it “visually stunning” and also highlighted the story’s effectiveness despite being “kind of wild.” She further praised the movie, saying it had “so much energy,” was “incredibly funny,” and boasted multiple “fun characters.”

Meanwhile, Attractions Magazine promised Hoppers would be “a very cute movie with an unexpected adventure.” However, they did not provide a detailed review, promising to do so next week.

Noted critic Tessa Smith (Mama’s Geeky) said that Hoppers was one of Pixar’s best films, adding that it was “heartwarming, hilarious, and relevant to the times.”

She further stated, “If we all work together & respect one another, we can accomplish so much more. This movie gives me hope (& a renewed love of nature!!).” Smith also encouraged fans to see it in theaters and bring tissues — the latter being essentially a warning for tear-inducing scenes.

The DisInsider co-founder, Skyler Shuler, called the film “a home run for Pixar” and a “must see for everyone.” He highlighted the film’s “heartfelt, funny, and fun” nature and expressed belief that it would become many people’s favorite Pixar film.

Hoppers arrives in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2026. Daniel Chong directed the film from Jesse Andrews’ screenplay, in addition to developing the story.

Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, and Jon Hamm star as the voices of Mabel, King George, and Mayor Jerry. They lead a voice cast comprising Meryl Streep, Dave Franco, Nichole Sakura, Sam Richardson, Eduardo Franco, Kathy Najimy, and Isiah Whitlock Jr., among others.
