Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. The case will now proceed toward a preliminary hearing.

Nick Reiner submits a not guilty plea in Rob and Michele Reiner’s murder

Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner.

The 32-year-old entered the plea during an arraignment hearing in Los Angeles, where he is facing two counts of first degree murder (via Entertainment Weekly). Prosecutors also filed special circumstance allegations, including multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 29, when a judge will determine whether the case should move forward to trial.

Authorities say the couple were found dead inside their home on December 14, 2025. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner suffered multiple sharp force injuries inflicted with a knife, according to official findings. Their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered her father that afternoon, while Michele was found later inside the residence.

Nick Reiner was arrested hours later in the Exposition Park area and taken into custody the following morning in connection with the deaths. He has remained in jail since December 2025 and was not granted bail during the latest court appearance. Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene entered the not guilty plea on his behalf after the case experienced delays related to a change in legal representation.

The hearing was overseen by Theresa McGonigle, who set the next court date. If convicted, Nick Reiner could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty. However, prosecutors have not announced whether they plan to pursue capital punishment.

As of now, the motive has not been publicly disclosed. However, PEOPLE reported that Nick Reiner and his father were involved in a heated argument at a holiday gathering shortly before the killings. Investigators have not confirmed whether that incident is connected to the case.
