New Netflix Thriller Takes #1 Spot on Streaming, Beats Ridley Scott Movie
A new Netflix thriller film has surpassed a Ridley Scott movie in the streamer’s Top 10 list of most-watched films. Thanks to strong viewership, Firebreak has become the most-watched movie on the OTT platform, outperforming Prometheus. While it has been only three days since the Spanish film dropped, its impressive performance denotes a strong start in its streaming run.
Netflix’s Firebreak is dominating on streaming
As of February 23, 2026, the Spanish thriller is the #1 movie on Netflix worldwide.
Firebreak thus outranks Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which until recently was the #1 movie on the platform but is now #2 (via FlixPatrol).
The film also outranks other titles in the Top 10 list. They are The Addams Family 2 (#3), The Addams Family (#4), The Orphans (#5), The Swedish Connection (#6), Rumble (#7), The Saint (#8), The World Will Tremble (#9), and Famous Last Words: Eric Dane (#10).
Meanwhile, in the United States, the film is currently the #10 film on Netflix.
Firebreak follows Mara and her 8-year-old daughter Lide. After her husband and Lide’s father dies, she takes her on a farewell trip to their summer family home to prepare it for sale, also bringing along her brother-in-law, Luis, his wife Elena, and the couple’s son, Arias.
However, Mara and Lide clash due to differing perspectives on selling the home. The former wishes to sell it to help herself and Lide move on, while the young girl wants to keep it as it’s the last piece of connection she has with her father.
Not long after, a wildfire erupts, and the family is forced to evacuate. Meanwhile, Mara soon realizes Lide went missing in the chaos. Defying the evacuation order, she and the other family members initiate a search for Lide, soon learning that there is a deep, dark secret behind her disappearance.
David Victori, best known for the TV series Sky Rojo and film Cross the Line, helmed Firebreak. Meanwhile, Javier Echánez, Asier Guerricaechebarría, and Jon Iriarte wrote the screenplay.
The film’s cast includes Belén Cuesta, Joaquín Furriel, Diana Gómez, Enric Auquer, Bernabé Fernández, Candela Martínez, Mika Arias, Elena Silva, and Mònica Giménez.
