Loki Star Details How Best Friend of 29 Years Betrayed Him

Richard E. Grant, who has been a prolific presence in the industry for decades, opened up about how he found out a longtime friend had betrayed him. The 68-year-old actor spoke about this in a new podcast appearance. Grant revealed that a friend of three decades had mistakenly sent an email to him that contained how she really felt about him.

Richard E. Grant, whose works include the likes of Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Saltburn, and Loki, spoke out about a betrayal he faced from a very old friend during an appearance on the Mad, Sad, & Bad podcast.

“What I thought was one of the five best friends in my life,” Grant revealed in the latest episode of the podcast, “She sent an email from Africa to a mutual friend in Australia who’d asked for my email address, and, because my name was in the body of the email, I got inadvertently sent this email.”

Grant explained that this message came “on a day when I had heard for a third time that a film that I’d written and was about to direct, the finances had collapsed. And I was doing the final episode of Frasier.” Grant noted that the email contained “a paragraph of such toxicity” that he decided to cut this person off from his life.

“And I thought, ‘That’s not a real friend anymore.’ And I was absolutely devastated,” the actor further explained, “So I copied and pasted that and then sent it back. And I said, ’29 years of friendship?'”

“It was of my script that I had written, which was entirely autobiographical,” he revealed, “And she had read this script. Our daughter was very smart, because she was 16, so exactly 20 years ago. She said to me, ‘In your heart of hearts, haven’t you always known this about that person?'”

Grant had written and directed Wah-Wah, a film based loosely on his own life and experiences.

The actor further called the experience “brutal.”

Grant has continued his exploits in Hollywood since then, appearing in multiple acclaimed films and television shows.
