Batman: James Gunn Squashes Huge Dark Knight DCU Rumor
James Gunn has debunked a rumor related to Batman, Robert Pattinson, and the DCU.
Pattinson played Bruce Wayne in 2022’s The Batman, which was directed by Matt Reeves. Following the spin-off show focusing on Colin Farrell’s The Penguin, Pattinson is now set to reprise his Dark Knight role in The Batman: Part II. That movie is currently scheduled to be released in 2027.
Plans are underway for Batman’s official introduction into Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Gunn has repeatedly stated that Pattinson will not be the DCU’s Batman, but who will actually play the Caped Crusader remains unclear at this time. It’s also not clear when Batman will officially make his DCU debut; although, it is known that a The Brave and the Bold movie focused on Bruce Wayne and Damien Wayne is in the works.
What did James Gunn say about Batman and the DCU?
Earlier this week, scooper Daniel Richtman allegedly reported on some matters regarding Reeves’ The Batman 3 and the DCU. The Direct previously attributed a quote to Richtman that says, “Oh, I am told Brave and the Bold is not coming for years. Gunn is pushing to get The Batman 3 out faster he wants that trilogy over he wants to move on. Doesn’t want two Batmans.”
The Direct, however, appears to have now taken that article down, as the story previously titled “The Batman 3 Finally Gets a Positive Update” now redirects to a January article titled “The Batman 3’s Villain Actor May Have Just Been Revealed.”
Nonetheless, Gunn was asked about the matter on Threads. When asked if there was any truth to the report, the Superman director said, “That’s incorrect. Well I mean I don’t know if it’s incorrect that DPK was told that, but the information is incorrect.”
What that means for the future is still a bit unclear, as neither The Brave and the Bold nor The Batman 3 has a release date at this time, meaning it’s unclear how long it will be before Dark Knight fans get to see these projects.
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Batman: Part II arrives on October 1, 2027.
