The Wrecking Crew 2 Plot Details Revealed for Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista Movie Sequel
Blue Beetle filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto has finally shared a new update for The Wrecking Crew 2, teasing plot details for the potential sequel. This comes nearly a month after the Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista-led action comedy was first released on Prime Video.
What’s the new update for The Wrecking Crew 2?
During an interview with The Flash director Andy Muschietti for THR, Soto admitted that he already has plot ideas for Amazon MGM Studios’ potential follow-up movie to The Wrecking Crew. Before this, writer Jonathan Tropper confirmed that early talks about the sequel have already taken place.
According to Soto, the first installment originally had a version where Momoa’s character, Jonny, was able to find his mother’s killer. However, they decided not to include that version in favor of potentially using the plot detail of searching for the killer in the sequel. In addition, he also teased that the sequel might also feature a connection to Miyavi’s Nakamura.
“There was a written version where they found him, and along the way, we realized that that gesture of letting go, even if only for the moment, was the step to take for his healing process,” he said.
Soto continued, “There are several things that seem interesting to me [for a sequel]. That’s one of them. If there’s a killer on the loose, are they really going to let it go? I think there’s a good beginning for the second one there. And the other thing that seems interesting to me is that the yakuza that they kill, Nakamura, he’s not the boss, he’s someone’s son. It seems to me that there’s material there for a sequel.”
The Wrecking Crew was directed by Soto, with Tropper writing the script. The ensemble cast also included Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, and Miyavi, with Stephen Root and Morena Baccarin. It was produced by Bautista, Momoa, Matt Reeves, Jeff Fierson, and Lynn Harris. Since its debut, the movie has garnered a Certified Fresh score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 68 reviews.
