Best Comedy Movies on Paramount Plus (February 2026)

Paramount Plus is one of the fastest growing streaming services in the world. It boasts a curated library of over 3,600 titles. This includes some of the greatest Comedy Movies ever made.

What are the best Comedy Movies on Paramount Plus?

While Paramount Plus streams a number of funny things, surprisingly few of them are movies. A casual glance at the comedy page reveals more sitcoms, celebrity roasts, and stand-up specials than films. Nevertheless, there are some classic movies available. The following chronological list profiles five of the best.

Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Axel Foley grew up on the mean streets of Detroit, eventually abandoning petty crime to become a police detective. His childhood friend Mikey was not so lucky, having been sent to prison for the car theft they both committed. However, Mikey served his time and got a job as a security guard in Beverly Hills, thanks to their friend, Jenny.

When Mikey is killed under mysterious circumstance during a visit to Detroit, Axel is forbidden from getting involved. Taking vacation time, he travels to Beverly Hills to reunite with Jenny and pursue the case from another angle. This soon brings Axel into conflict with the local police, who seem more concerned about keeping Axel under control than following his leads. Given the chaotic way Axel fights crime, that may be for the best.

Beverly Hills Cop changed dramatically over the course of its development. Originally, it was a straight action movie, and would have starred Mickey Rourke. It was later rewritten as a vehicle for Sylvester Stallone, with more comedic elements added to the script. It was ultimately offered to Eddie Murphy and further rewritten to be more of a buddy comedy/cop movie than an action film.

The end result was a movie that solidified Murphy’s status as an A-list actor after the success of 48 Hours and Trading Places. Beverly Hills Cop was a hit with critics and audiences, being the highest grossing film of 1984. While it didn’t win any of the Golden Globe Awards for which it was nominated, the soundtrack did win Best Soundtrack Album at that year’s Grammys. It also spawned an extensive franchise, with three sequels, and was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry in 2024.

Clerks (1994)

Dante Hicks wasn’t supposed to go in to work that Saturday. He was supposed to have the day off and play hockey with friends. Instead, he agreed to open the convenience store he worked at, only to get stuck working all day.

Over the course of that day, Dante will deal with far more than the colorfully insane customers that seem drawn to Quick Stop Groceries. He will skip work to attend a funeral and hold his hockey game on the roof of the store. He will also attempt to win back the old flame whose engagement he just saw announced in the newspaper. Finally, he will deal with the antics of the local drug dealers and Randal, his friend who works at the video store next door.

Clerks was a truly independent comedy on every level. Writer/director Kevin Smith filmed it at night at the actual convenience store he worked at in Leonardo, New Jersey. Smith also sold his comic collection and maxed out his credit card to finish the movie. (Even then, most of the budget went toward licensing the music for the soundtrack.)

Clerks built up a cult following, who seized upon the movie as a snapshot of slacker life in the 1990s. It was also a hit with critics, who praised it for its unique characters, quirky dialogue and stark realism. No less an authority than Roger Ebert praised Smith for his “knack for writing weird, sometimes brilliant, dialogue.” This led to Clerks winning the Award of the Youth at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. It also led to Smith building a career making similarly twisted comedy movies (including two Clerks sequels) set in the same shared Askewniverse

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

Bridget Jones is 32, a publicity agent for a publishing company, and sadly single. She has a crush on her boss, Daniel Cleaver, despite knowing him to be a rampant womanizer. Yet she refuses to act on her feelings until she runs into childhood acquaintance Mark Darcy at a New Years’ party. The rude Mr. Darcy inspires Bridget to turn her life around, stop smoking and drinking, lose weight, and find the perfect man. She chronicles these changes in a new diary.

Soon, Daniel is flirting back with the more aggressive Bridget. However, as they start dating in earnest, they keep running into Mark, who has an unpleasant history with Daniel. As the year unfolds, Bridget tries to keep her dignity in the face of various setbacks, with mixed success.

Based on the novel of the same name by Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones’s Diary modernized the story of Pride and Prejudice. This would have been obvious to Jane Austen fans even without the disagreeable corner of the love triangle being named Mr. Darcy. However, the comedy was a hit with critics, and slowly built up a following with audiences through word of mouth.

Renee Zellweger was praised for both her London accent and her knack for physical comedy. Colin Firth and Hugh Grant were also acclaimed for their performances as Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver respectively. However, while nominated for multiple awards, the movie and cast won relatively few. Despite this, it inspired several sequels that were equally well received.

Mean Girls (2004)

North Shore High School is ruled by “The Plastics” – a trio of spoiled Mean Girls who live to tear down their classmates. The worst of them is their leader, Regina George. Entering this ecosystem is Cady, who spent her entire life homeschooled and the last 12 years in Africa.

After befriending two outcasts, Cady is surprised to find herself inducted into The Plastics. At first, Cady is happy to be with the popular clique, and pursues Regina’s ex-boyfriend, Aaron. However, when Regina humiliates Cady at Halloween by making a play to win back Aaron, Cady is suddenly on-board with the outcasts’ plan to destroy the Plastics and the entire social order of North Shore High School.

There have been many comedy movies built around high school life, However, at the time it was released, Mean Girls was one of the few to center around girls and their relationships. This was thanks to a screenplay by Tina Fey, based on her own high school experiences.

Mean Girls was a critical and financial hit during its initial theatrical release. Most of the audience is estimated to have been 75% women and 50% of that was under 18. It is perhaps because of this that Mean Girls remains one of the most memed works in on-line culture.

The Naked Gun (2025)

Frank Drebin Jr. is a chip off the old block. Like his legendary father, he’s a Detective Lieutenant in the LAPD’s elite Police Squad unit. And just like his father, his unorthodox methods have gotten him into hot water with his bosses.

The final straw comes when a Primordial Law of Toughness (PLOT) Device is stolen from a safe deposit box on Frank’s watch. This leaves Frank racing to retrieve the PLOT Device before Police Squad is shut down. However, he also has to contend with crime novelist Beth Davenport, who thinks her brother’s apparent suicide was murder and tied to the theft. He also has to contend with falling in love with the amateur sleuth.

Many doubted the wisdom of trying to revamp The Naked Gun in the 21st century as a vehicle for Liam Neeson. However, the same formula that allowed perennial tough-guy actor Leslie Nielsen to revive his career parodying the sort of heroes he used to play worked just as well with Neeson. Indeed, the revamp is somewhat stronger, being less dependent on topical humor than the original trilogy. The revamp also allowed Pamela Anderson to prove her comedy bona fides, after years of playing roles that focused on her looks. (It should be noted that the original Naked Gun trilogy is also available on Paramount Plus.)
