Edward Norton, Bad Bunny, Javier Bardem, & More Join New Western Movie
Bad Bunny, Edward Norton, Javier Bardem, and a ton of other stars are set to lead an upcoming Caribbean Western from a legendary musician.
Who else is the Porto Rico cast with Edward Norton and Bad Bunny?
According to a new report from Deadline, Bad Bunny (real name Benito Martínez Ocasio), Norton, and Bardem will be joined by Viggo Mortensen in the upcoming Porto Rico, a historical epic set to be directed by legendary Latin artist René “Residente” Pérez Joglar.
Deadline notes the film is described as “an epic Caribbean western and historical drama,” and will be based on the life of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Román, known as Águila Blanca (White Eagle), and co-written by Oscar-winning writer Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman)
Román fought alongside the Cuban Liberation Army against colonialism in the late 19th century, and also was instrumental in being a voice for Puerto Rican identity. The revolutionary has become a legend in the folk lore of the country, although it’s unclear exactly what aspect of his life the film is set to cover.
“I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” Residente said. “This film is a reaffirmation of who we are — told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”
While Mortensen, Bardem, and Norton are all highly established actors, Ocasio has only had a few starring roles. Most recently, he appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, as well as in the 2022 film Bullet Train. He also had a brief role in 2025’s Happy Gilmore 2.
