How to Train Your Dragon Loses to Netflix Original Comedy in Streaming Wars

A Netflix original road comedy film secured the top spot on Netflix movies streaming charts last week, leaving the 2025 live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon as the first runner-up. Notably, How to Train Your Dragon debuted on Netflix on February 10, whereas the comedy feature premiered on the streaming giant on February 13, 2026.

Joe’s College Road Trip tops Netflix movies list with How to Train Your Dragon as runner-up

Joe’s College Road Trip held the top spot on Netflix’s streaming charts in the week between February 9 and February 15, according to Tudum. Tyler Perry wrote and directed the movie as part of his sprawling Madea franchise. The story revolves around Medea’s brother Joe, who joins his grandson on his college road trip. Perry plays multiple characters in the movie, including Madea and Joe. He also co-produced the feature.

Meanwhile, How to Train Your Dragon finished the week in the #2 spot. The other entries in the top 10 list are The Investigation of Lucy Letby, Homefront, Overboard, Flipped, KPop Demon Hunters, A Father’s Miracle, The Black Phone, and Night at the Museum.

For most of these movies, it is their first or second week on the Netflix charts. However, that’s not the case with KPop Demon Hunters, which has spent 35 weeks on the list.

Notably, Joe’s College Road Trip has received mostly mixed responses from critics and audiences alike, and currently has an audience rating of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Madea movies form part of a popular comedy franchise, so it’s expected that Joe’s College Road Trip would attract considerable Netflix viewership following its release.

As for How to Train Your Dragon, the Mason Thames and Gerard Butler-led fantasy blockbuster made over $636 million at the global box office and currently has a 77% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes after 261 reviews.
