‘The Bar Couldn’t Be Higher’: The Batman 2 Writer on ‘Dangerous’ Sequel

One of the writers behind The Batman Part 2 has unveiled a new major update about its plot, fueling anticipation surrounding the long-awaited sequel. On social media, Mattson Tomlin promised that it would have a fresh narrative. Previously, the first film showcased a fresh take on the Dark Knight’s mythos, leaving fans wondering how the sequel would continue to keep things captivating and interesting.

Mattson Tomlin hypes up The Batman Part 2 in latest update

A fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anticipation for The Batman Part 2. They stressed that while Hollywood “ruined certain franchises,” the first film was “effin bad—.” The user added that they were surprised by how everything in it was “perfectly executed.”

Responding to the user, Mattson Tomlin said he and Matt Reeves, who co-wrote the film’s script in addition to directing it, “worked exceptionally hard to tell a story worthy of the character.” He teased that the story would be “something that feels new and dangerous.”

He further stated that “the bar couldn’t be higher,” and expressed excitement at people eventually seeing the film and having in-depth discussions about it. “Can’t begin to describe what this film means to me,” he concluded.

Tomlin’s comments might have something to do with the reported castings of Marvel stars Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson in the film. The former is reportedly playing district attorney-turned-violent criminal Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Meanwhile, the latter is rumored to be essaying Dent’s wife, Gilda.

Previously, Jeff Sneider shared on The Hot Mic podcast, citing sources, that Gilda “would have a bigger role” than Harvey in the film. He also suggested that the narrative would be “an amalgamation of different [Batman stories].”

Moreover, Tomlin’s comments come a few weeks after Colin Farrell, who plays Penguin in the franchise, praised the sequel’s script in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The Batman Part II premieres in theaters on October 1, 2027. Filming would commence either in late April or early May 2026.
