28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Deleted Scene Revealed Before Digital Release

A deleted scene from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has been released online, offering a glimpse of a moment that could have significantly altered the film’s theatrical narrative. This comes just before the sequel has its digital release.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s deleted scene released

The deleted scene, shared exclusively by IGN, shows a moment many viewers felt was missing from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s theatrical cut: a direct confrontation between Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and the Alpha infected known as Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry).

In the extended version of Dr. Kelson’s (Ralph Fiennes) conversation with the deranged cult leader, Crystal bolts like a coward the moment he spots Samson approaching in the distance. The scene serves as more than just a comedic beat—it functions as a callback to young Jimmy running for his life during the initial outbreak, revealing that the adult villain is still just a scared boy hiding behind his Satanic facade.

Director Nia DaCosta crafted two parallel storylines in the film: young Spike (Alfie Williams) getting ensnared in Jimmy Crystal’s murderous cult, and Dr. Kelson making a breakthrough with the cured Alpha, Samson. While these narratives collide in the climax, many critics noted the conspicuous lack of interaction between Jimmy and Samson throughout.

The decision to cut this moment ultimately came down to thematic coherence and plot logistics. DaCosta’s vision positioned Jimmy and Samson’s stories as contrasting explorations of monstrosity versus humanity. The deleted scene, while providing a rare lighthearted moment, would have undermined this deeper resonance.

Now, this revelatory deleted scene comes as 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple gears up for digital release. It is releasing tomorrow, February 17, with the film launching on digital and PVOD platforms. Physical media fans can look forward to the 4K UHD SteelBook, Blu-ray, and DVD releases on April 21.
