Viral Nicolas Cage Clip Reminds Fans Why He Doesn’t Need the MCU

Nicolas Cage addressed why he doesn’t need to be a part of the MCU in his typically unique style back in 2023. Despite having played Ghost Rider and now headlining Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Noir series, Cage has never joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he touched on in a now-viral clip.

Spider-Noir’s Nicolas Cage doesn’t ‘need to be in the MCU’

During the 2023 Miami Film Festival panel, moderated by Variety’s Angelique Jackson, Nicolas Cage was encouraged to consider entering the MCU. Jackson told him, “We need to get you into the MCU!” His response was, “Oh me? Yeah, I guess I’m not in the MCU, am I? I don’t need to be in the MCU. I’m Nic Cage!”

The clip recently resurfaced on X, sending Marvel fans into a speculation spiral. It ranges from a long-awaited third outing as Ghost Rider, but this time with the R-rated edge his previous films lacked, to an unexpected Gambit casting, though Channing Tatum currently occupies that role in the franchise.

Fan reactions have largely sided with Cage’s perspective. One fan commented, “He is literally his own cinematic universe. The man has played a vampire, a sorcerer, and himself in a movie about saving himself. You really think marvel can contain that aura? Respectfully.” Another quipped, “Wasn’t he Ghost Rider tho? But yes he’s right, he’s Nick Cage.” A third declared, “He is the CCU. Cage Cinematic Universe.”

Nicolas Cage has been in several iconic movies across his four-decade career. He recently took on projects like Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Renfield, and Longlegs. His upcoming role in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir continues this trajectory. He plays Ben Reilly, a troubled 1930s vigilante protecting a noir-style parallel universe. The series is his first live-action appearance as the character he voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
