Wuthering Heights Rules Weekend Box Office, Beats Goat & Crime 101

Wuthering Heights dominated the weekend box office with a strong global debut, marking the biggest worldwide opening of the year so far. The Emerald Fennell-directed adaptation surged past Sony Pictures’ GOAT and Amazon MGM Studios’ Crime 101, securing the No. 1 spot.

Wuthering Heights makes an impressive $82 million in the opening weekend globallly

At the weekend box office, Wuthering Heights earned $42 million from 76 international territories and $40 million over the four-day domestic holiday stretch (via Deadline). While rival studios estimate the North American tally may land closer to the mid-$30 million range, Warner Bros. is focusing on the $82 million global figure as the benchmark.

Directed by Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, the $80 million production reimagines Emily Brontë’s classic tale of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff’s turbulent romance in 18th-century England. The film performed especially well in the United Kingdom with $10.3 million, followed by Italy ($4.4 million) and Australia ($4.3 million). Markets such as India, Thailand, and Singapore also had No. 1 openings (via Variety).

Premium formats played a major role, with IMAX and other large-format screens accounting for 31% of domestic revenue. Valentine’s Day falling on a Saturday provided an additional boost. Additionally, the film reportedly attracted a largely female audience in the U.S., with women making up 76% of ticket buyers. Internationally, it drew a broader demographic, particularly across Europe.

Sony’s animated sports comedy GOAT placed second globally with $47.6 million, including $15.6 million overseas from 42 markets. Domestically, the film earned $32 million over four days. With 40% of international territories still to open, Sony hopes the $80 million to $90 million production will show strong legs similar to recent animated hits.

Meanwhile, Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, opened to $29.7 million globally. The noir thriller collected $17.7 million over four days in North America and $12 million internationally from 60 markets. Although respectable for an R-rated adult drama, the $90 million production faces pressure to sustain momentum in the coming weeks.
