Vladmir trailer confirms its Netflix release date

Netflix has released the official trailer for Vladimir, confirming its release date as March 5.

The eight-episode limited series stars Rachel Weisz, Leo Woodall, and John Slattery. Based on Julia May Jonas’s bestselling novel, the series centers on a middle-aged professor who becomes obsessed with a new colleague.

The protagonist, played by Weisz, is an unnamed professor, writer, wife, and mother at a small liberal arts college. As her personal and professional life destabilizes, she develops an intense fixation on Vladimir, a fellow professor portrayed by Woodall. According to the official synopsis, the show is “full of sexy secrets, dark humor, and complex characters.”

The series title refers to Woodall’s character, and according to Jonas, “It’s a nod to novels that name themselves after the young women whom the man is obsessed with… I wanted to flip the script and have it be coming from a woman’s perspective.” Jonas serves as the creator, writer, and executive producer.

Weisz’s character frequently breaks the fourth wall throughout the series. Jonas explains, “We managed to make external a lot of those internalizations through the direct address and the fantasy.” Weisz adds, “You have direct access to what the character is thinking and then also what she wants you to think.” John Slattery, who plays her husband, notes, “She says one thing and then admits to another thing.”

The series also stars Jessica Henwick, Ellen Robertson, Kayli Carter, Miriam Silverman, Mallori Johnson, Matt Walsh, Tattiawna Jones, and Louise Lambert. Directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini helm two episodes and also executive produce alongside Weisz, Sharon Horgan, Stacy Greenberg, Kira Carstensen, Jason Winer, and Jon Radler.

According to Netflix, Vladimir promises a story of blurred lines between reality and fantasy.
