Snow White: How Much Money Disney Lost on Controversial Live-Action Remake Revealed

The amount of money that Disney lost on the controversial Snow White live-action remake that was released in 2025 has been revealed.

Snow White is a 2025 live-action film that serves as a remake of Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was released in 1937. Directed by Marc Webb, the movie stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

While Snow White didn’t do terribly at the box office, as it made over $200 million globally, it did fall short of what it was projected to make. The movie was also surrounded by controversy for a number of reasons — some boycotted the movie because of Gadot’s casting and political views, while others were upset with Ziegler’s criticizing comments about the original animated film and her own political statements. Peter Dinklage also openly criticized the movie for playing into stereotypes regarding dwarfism, which caused some more backlash.

How much money did Disney lose on Snow White?

According to a new report by Forbes, the budget for the live-action Snow White remake is higher than was initially reported. The outlet reports that the movie ultimately cost Disney around $336.5 million to make, with Deadline having previously said that it was around the $270 million range.

The article notes, “The latest set of filings are for the year to December 31, 2024 which was less than three months before the movie debuted so should give an almost-complete picture of its costs. The $336.5 million spent on Snow White is higher than the cost of Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, its Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel movie and its live action version of Beauty and the Beast which grossed a staggering $1.3 billion in 2017.”

The 2025 live-action Snow White movie is now available to watch on the Disney+ streaming service.
