Goat, the latest animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation, has made its debut on Rotten Tomatoes with a promising start. As early reviews roll in, the film posts a Fresh score that reflects strong initial approval for its sports-themed story and animated ensemble.
Goat movie debuts with great Rotten Tomatoes score
Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming feature Goat has arrived on Rotten Tomatoes with a Fresh rating of 81%. The platform calculates the score from 21 critic reviews counted as of February 10, 2026. It has not generated an audience percentage yet, though it lists more than 50 verified ratings awaiting a score.
Rotten Tomatoes classifies a film as Fresh when at least 60% of critics give it a positive review. GOAT meets this benchmark, with 17 out of 21 critics rating the film positively. The 81% score represents the early critical response ahead of its wide theatrical release.
Director Tyree Dillihay leads GOAT, a 100-minute animated sports comedy produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. The story follows Will Harris, a determined young goat who dreams of competing in roarball, a high-speed, full-contact team sport. After a video of Will’s skills goes viral, he earns a spot on a professional team and works to gain the trust of his teammates and help them succeed.
Caleb McLaughlin voices Will, with Gabrielle Union as roarball legend Jett Fillmore, Aaron Pierre as rival Mane Attraction, and Stephen Curry voicing Lenny Williamson in his debut role. Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, and Jennifer Hudson also join the ensemble cast.
Sony Pictures Imageworks created the animation for the film. The production team started developing Goat in 2019 and officially announced it in 2024. They held an early screening on February 7, 2026, ahead of the U.S. theatrical release set for February 13. The release coincides with the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. Tyree Dillihay directs the film in his first feature project.
