Dan Trachtenberg Reveals Predator Future After Paramount Deal
Dan Trachtenberg revealed new details about his future with the Predator franchise following the announcement of his first-look directing and producing deal with Paramount.
The director addressed ongoing speculation about his involvement in upcoming Predator projects and clarified how his new studio partnership will align with his work on the sci-fi series.
Dan Trachtenberg isn’t walking away from Predator
Dan Trachtenberg is not walking away from the Predator franchise. In an interview with Screen Rant, he confirmed he is still developing ideas for future installments despite signing a first-look producing and directing deal with Paramount. “Well, Predator, I’m in this zone of dreaming up more, like I said, as I had been previously,” Trachtenberg said. He added that his new Paramount deal is a “simultaneous thing” and emphasized, “timing [will be] a bit of a thing” in determining his upcoming projects.
Trachtenberg directed the last three Predator films: Prey (2022), Killer of Killers (2025), and Badlands (2025). Critics praised all three, and Badlands earned over $184 million worldwide, making it the franchise’s highest-grossing entry. That commercial and critical success fuels his continued interest in the series.
Trachtenberg’s deal with Paramount provides him with opportunities to create original theatrical projects and explore new intellectual properties. “Paramount is this incredible opportunity to make original things that have been in my heart and mind for a long time,” he explained. “They also have some very cool IP that I could now get to think about.”
Trachtenberg has expressed interest in expanding on Badlands’ cliffhanger ending. He also wants to explore Dek’s relationship with his mother. Additionally, he aims to follow up on Killer of Killers’ reveal about cryogenically frozen Yautja hunt survivors on Yautja Prime.
The Predator franchise remains active. Future developments may include the long-discussed Prey 2, a possible Alien vs. Predator crossover, and talks involving Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return.
Predator: Badlands releases on Hulu February 12 and on physical media February 17.
