Liam Hemsworth Leads Star-Filled Erotic Thriller Movie From Paul Schrader
Academy Award nominee Paul Schrader‘s upcoming erotic thriller movie has finally found its main cast, which will be led by The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. Titled Non Compos Mentis (translation: not of sound mind), the film has also tapped Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (Hannah and Her Sisters), Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out), and Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds).
What do we know about Liam Hemsworth’s new movie?
According to Deadline, production on Non Compos Mentis is expected to begin this spring in New York. Schrader will be directing from a screenplay he has written. He has been developing the project since 2024. The movie will be produced by the filmmaker’s long-time collaborator, David Gonzales, with Nadine de Barros serving as an executive producer for Fortitude Films.
“The film centers on two privileged brothers confronting their mother’s decline into dementia: one, a polished New York defense attorney; the other, a hard-edged corporate heir,” reads the movie’s initial synopsis. “Their uneasy dynamic fractures when the attorney embarks on a consuming affair with a younger woman, igniting a volatile love triangle that unleashes obsession, betrayal, and a ruthless battle for control of the family fortune.”
Schrader explained how his upcoming movie would be different from his previous works. “[My films] are often about men testing the limits of their own control,” He said. “Here, control becomes an illusion, and the consequences are intimate, erotic, and finally destructive.”
Gonzales added, “Paul is returning to the erotic thriller to examine how desire can destabilize power within a family. With this exceptional cast, we’re building a film that is both intimate and explosive.”
