As of today, How to Train Your Dragon is now streaming on Netflix. The live-action movie stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut, Peter Serafinowicz as Spitelout, Ruth Codd as Phlegma the Fierce, Naomi Wirthner as Gothi, and Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch.

Butler plays Chief Stoick the Vast, the same character he voiced in the animated franchise.

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. Dean DeBlois writes and directs How to Train Your Dragon, based on the novel series by Cressida Cowell. DeBlois previously wrote and directed all three How to Train Your Dragon animated movies. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are producers on the live-action movie.

Released in June 2025, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon grossed over $636 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. Universal Pictures greenlit the sequel, How to Train Your Dragon 2, scheduled for release on June 11, 2027. Filming is now underway.
