Caleb McLaughlin addressed speculation surrounding his viral gymnastics video and whether it was a subtle audition for the role of Miles Morales. The Stranger Things star clarified the intent behind the clip and shared his thoughts on potentially taking on the iconic Marvel role.
Caleb McLaughlin would like to be Miles Morales, but wasn’t auditioning for it
Caleb McLaughlin expressed interest in playing Miles Morales but clarified that he was not auditioning for the role.
“I would love to play Miles, but that was just a hobby that I picked up with some friends of mine,” he said during an interview, referencing his Instagram videos showing gymnastics and martial arts. “It wasn’t—I wasn’t like practicing for anything,” he explained. “That wasn’t a soft audition. That was just Caleb being Caleb.”
Speaking to E! News, McLaughlin emphasized his enthusiasm if offered the opportunity: “If Kevin Feige sees it and calls you… I’m very interested. Very interested. Miles or somebody else? Miles, Miles. Yeah.” He added that he has a sensei named Chris and enjoys manipulating air as part of his hobby. “I’m like a daredevil,” McLaughlin said.
In a separate interview at the premiere of his new animated film Goat, McLaughlin reaffirmed his desire: “I would love to play Miles.” He elaborated, “I think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people.” He also noted his personal connection: “Being from New York… seeing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I just feel it’s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means” (via Variety).
McLaughlin’s comments followed speculation that he was cast as Miles Morales after social media posts showed him training physically. However, he made clear this training was not related to any role.
McLaughlin recently concluded his work as Lucas on Stranger Things, with the final season debuting on New Year’s Eve 2025. He stars in Goat, an animated film about a goat named Will entering professional roarball. The cast includes Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry, Jennifer Hudson, and others.
Goat releases in theaters on February 13, 2026.
