Netflix To Make Valentine’s Terrifying With 2025’s Horror Rom-Com

Netflix is putting a darkly fun twist on Valentine’s Day with a horror-tinged rom-com set to drop in early 2026. The movie mixes romance, comedy, and a monster into one package, creating a genre mashup that’s already earned buzz on the festival circuit and streaming scene. It’s shaping up to be the perfect pick for couples who want something a little less cheesy this February.

Your Monster coming to Netflix very soon

Titled Your Monster, the 2024 horror rom-com slated to arrive on Netflix on February 14th, puts Melissa Barrera in the lead, fresh off her turns in Scream and Abigail. The film is a creative mix of romance, comedy, and light horror, with Barrera leading a story that feels both heartfelt and bizarre in all the best ways (via What’s on Netflix).

Barrera is backed by a solid ensemble that includes Tommy Dewey, Edmund Donovan, Kayla Foster, and Meghann Fahy. The movie comes from writer-director Caroline Lindy and first made noise at the Sundance Film Festival before Vertical picked it up for North American release.

Barrera plays Laura Franco, an aspiring actor whose life spirals after a rough breakup. Just when things hit rock bottom, she stumbles into something totally unexpected: a strange creature hiding out in the closet of her childhood home. As their unlikely connection grows, Laura starts rediscovering her creative spark and slowly lets herself believe in love again.

The movie’s offbeat take on romance reminded many viewers of a modern fairytale, with a spooky spin. Critics responded positively to its genre-mixing style, and on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s scored a strong approval rating of 79%. Much of the praise has gone to Melissa Barrera’s performance.

Following its theatrical release in October 2024, the film later moved to streaming. It arrived on Max in January 2025 and quickly climbed into the platform’s list of most-watched titles. Now the film is gearing up for another spotlight moment, with Netflix set to roll it out to U.S. audiences on Valentine’s Day 2026.
