Sex Tape is leaving Netflix next month
Sex Tape, starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel, will exit Netflix on March 1st, 2026.
The story follows Annie (Diaz) and Jay (Segel), a married couple, who decide to record themselves having sex in an attempt to rekindle their marriage. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when they realize that their tapes are synchronized across several iPads that they previously owned. So, they embark on a hilarious journey to seek out the tablets and delete the footage.
Alongside starring in the movie, Segel co-wrote the script with Kate Angelo and Nicholas Stoller. Segel previously collaborated with Stoller on their 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Jake Kasdan, who also helmed the modern Jumaji duology and Amazon Prime Video’s Red One, directed the Sex Tape. It also stars Ellie Kemper, Rob Corddry, Rob Lowe, Nat Faxon, Nancy Lenehan, and Giselle Eisenberg, among others, in prominent roles.
Before the role ultimately went to Diaz, the filmmakers reportedly considered other A-list actresses, including Reese Witherspoon, Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Rose Byrne, and Jennifer Garner.
The movie premiered in cinemas on July 18, 2014, and reportedly had a budget of $40 million. By the end of its theatrical run, Sex Tape had a global haul of more than $126 million. This is despite the movie’s negative reception from both critics and audiences. It currently has a 16% Tomatometer score and 33% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.
Along with Sex Tape, Netflix will also be removing several other popular movies from its library, including Ace Ventura 1 & 2, Anger Management, Bad Teacher, Brightburn, Godzilla, and The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2.
