The Exorcist: Another MCU Star Joins Cast of Mike Flanagan & Scarlett Johansson Movie
Yet another MCU star has joined the cast of Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist movie.
Flanagan — known for making titles such as 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House, 2024’s The Life of Chuck, and much more — is working on a new Exorcist film. Releasing in 2027 from Universal Pictures, the cast of the movie includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Who has joined the cast of The Exorcist?
Per Variety, it has now been announced that Laurence Fishburne has also joined the cast of Flanagan’s The Exorcist. This makes him the third MCU star involved with the production, as Fishburne played Dr. Bill Foster in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. Johansson notably played Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in many MCU titles, while Ejiofor plays Karl Mordo in the Doctor Strange movies.
Fishburne is also known for portraying Morpheus in the original Matrix trilogy and Bowery King in the John Wick films. His filmography additionally includes 1979’s Apocalypse Now, 1991’s Boyz n the Hood, 1993’s Searching for Bobby Fischer, 2003’s Mystic River, 2006’s Mission: Impossible III, 2010’s Predators, 2011’s Contagion, 2013’s Man of Steel, 2024’s Megalopolis, 2025’s The Amateur, and more.
Character details are being kept under wraps at this time. Not much is known about the plot of the new Exorcist movie other than that it will not be a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, which was directed by David Gordon Green. That movie was supposed to kick off a new trilogy; however, those plans were scrapped after Believer underperformed at the box office and was negatively received by most audiences and critics.
Flanagan’s Exorcist movie, which does not yet have an official title, is currently scheduled to hit United States theaters on March 12, 2027. Flanagan is also working on a remake of Carrie, which will be a Prime Video miniseries, that wrapped production in October 2025.
