What happens in the Exit 8 trailer?
The Exit 8 trailer, per the official synopsis, “follows a man (Kazunari Ninomiya) trapped in an endless sterile subway passageway as he sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?”
Exit 8 is directed by Genki Kawamura, who also co-wrote the script with Kentaro Hirase. In addition to Ninomiya, the cast of the movie includes Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase, and Nana Komatsu. Yuto Sakata, Kenji Yamada, Akita Yamamoto, and Taichi Ito serve as producers.
This is Kawamura’s second feature film following 2022’s A Hundred Flowers. He served as a producer on movies such as 2015’s The Boy and the Beast, 2016’s Your Name, 2019’s Weathering with You, 2021’s Belle, and more, while he also wrote a 2012 worldwide bestseller titled If Cats Disappeared From The World.
The movie had its world premiere at the Midnight Screenings of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival last May. It has since been shown at a number of other festivals, and it was also released in Japan last year. It currently has a 97 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes with 37 reviews.
Exit 8 will be released in United States theaters on April 10, 2026.
