MCU Fans Think Mark Ruffalo Spoiled Surprise Avengers: Secret Wars Return
Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo may have let it slip that Thor will be returning in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to begin filming later this year. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters in 2027. Secret Wars serves as a sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in post-production and slated to arrive this December.
While the cast of Avengers: Doomsday has been widely reported, there’s still some ambiguity as to who will be returning for Secret Wars. Some stars like Letitia Wright and Simu Liu have already confirmed they’re in it, and it’s also known that Sadie Sink’s mystery character will show up; however, Marvel has not yet formally announced the full line-up.
What did Chris Hemsworth say about Avengers: Secret Wars?
In an interview with BuzzFeed UK, Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Ruffalo — all of whom star together in Crime 101, arriving later this month — were asked if they could name all of the superhero movies that they’ve been in.
Hemsworth began counting and then stopped at five, though Ruffalo then corrected him and said that Hemsworth is in six.
“Six?” Hemsworth asked.
“Well, there will be,” Ruffalo answered.
“Yeah, but we haven’t shot that one,” Hemsworth said.
While he doesn’t specifically mention that Secret Wars is the one that they “haven’t shot,” Hemsworth has starred in far more than six MCU movies. He has, however, been in five Avengers movies up until this point — six if counting Secret Wars. Additionally, when taking a screenshot of the whiteboard Hemsworth is writing on, rotating it, and zooming closer, he appears to be counting numbers next to the word “Avengers” when he initially said five.

All this has led fans to theorize that Thor will be returning in Secret Wars. That movie is currently dated for December 17, 2027. Avengers: Doomsday first arrives on December 18, 2026.
