New Exorcist Movie Adds Best Actor Nominee to Scarlett Johansson Horror Movie

The new Exorcist movie from Mike Flanagan has added a big name from the world of the MCU, as well as a number of other high-profile films that have earned countless award recognition.

What MCU star has joined Scarlett Johansson in the new Exorcist movie?

According to a new report from THR, Chiwetel Ejiofor is set to join Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming new Exorcist movie. Ejiofor has starred in the MCU in the past as Karl Mordo/Baron Mordo in the Doctor Strange films.

He is, of course, also an extremely accomplished actor, having been nominated for two Oscars, two Emmys, and five Golden Globes for performances in things like 12 Years a Slave, Children of Men, Dancing on the Edge, The Elephant Queen, and more. Ejiofor also appeared in 2025’s The Life of Chuck, which Flanagan wrote and directed.

Ejiofor joins a cast that continues to grow with some big names. Alongside the pair, Diane Lane was also reported to be in the movie last month, and Jacobi Jupe is also set to star in the movie. THR notes that Ejiofor will be playing an ex-convict turned priest, while Johansson plays Jupe’s mother. Other details on the movie remain under wraps for now.

The script for the new Exorcist movie comes from Flanagan. He also produces the film for his Red Room Pictures banner alongside David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek both serve as executive producers.

Production is expected to take place in New York City. The new Exorcist movie, which has yet to receive an official title, will be released in United States theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027, from Universal Pictures.
