February seems to be an exciting month for movie buffs, as a host of fan-favorite titles, including classic movies of the past, as well as new seasons of existing TV shows, will be making their way onto Netflix’s roster in the coming weeks.
A 2021 horror movie featuring Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames that made huge strides upon its release is also among the iconic films that are heading to the shores of the renowned streaming platform.
The Black Phone starts streaming on Netflix in February
Netflix subscribers can now look forward to watching Ethan Hawke-led The Black Phone on their preferred devices, with the title all set to become part of the streaming service’s already rich content library. Directed, co-written, and co-produced by Scott Derrickson, the 103-minute movie is on track to join Netflix’s roster on February 12, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
Led by Hawke and Mason Thames, The Black Phone revolves around the journey of an introverted 13-year-old boy, named Finney Shaw, who finds himself kidnapped by a maniacal masked killer, The Grabber.
Held in a soundproof basement, Shaw tries to rely on his wits to plan his escape, only to hear a ring from a disconnected phone mounted on the wall. He soon realizes that the call is coming from previous, dead victims of The Grabber, who want to ensure that Shaw does not end up sharing their fate.
While Ethan Hawke and a young Mason Thames earned much acclaim for their performances, the movie also featured a stunning bunch of additional actors, including the likes of Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, E. Roger Mitchell, James Ransone, and Troy Rudeseal, among others.
The Black Phone proved to be a huge success for Derrickson, garnering rave reviews from critics. The film currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 81%. It also enjoyed a fruitful run at the global box office, earning well over $161 million, according to Box Office Mojo, which subsequently enabled Blumhouse to soon confirm a sequel.
