Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 Gets Good & Bad News
Sam Raimi has addressed ongoing speculation surrounding a possible fourth Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire. The director offered mixed signals about the project’s future while discussing his relationship with the franchise and Marvel Studios’ current direction.
Sam Raimi would love to make Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire
Sam Raimi has expressed interest in making another Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire. Speaking at the London premiere of Send Help on January 29, 2026, Raimi said, “Loved him in Spider-Man, No Way Home, and the old characters, Doc Ock, and the Green Goblin, played by Alfred Molina, William Defoe. So, I think the kids would like to see him” (via Associated Press).
Raimi acknowledged Marvel Studios’ current direction with the Spider-Man character. He said, “I mean, um, right now, Marvel’s very successful on their own tangent with their own Spider-Man, and where he is involved with the Avengers and the other superheroes. So I don’t think it makes sense right now to break up that great successful run that they’re having, just to allow me to make another Spider Man movie.”
Despite this, Raimi did not rule out the possibility entirely. “But I’d love to, and the day might come, and I’d love to do it,” he said.
Previously, Raimi also addressed the long-speculated Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire in an interview with ScreenRant. He said, “I love Spider-Man. And I love Marvel and the producers that make it.” Reflecting on his experience directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he noted that Marvel Studios is “better than ever.” Raimi stated that Maguire’s Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane “have gone elsewhere” and concluded, “it wouldn’t be right for me to go back and try and resurrect my version of this story.”
Despite continued fan interest, Sam Raimi confirmed he will not return to direct a fourth installment in his Spider-Man series. Several collaborators have expressed support for the project, but Raimi has made it clear there are no plans to revisit it.
