Cameron Diaz Has a Fake Marriage in New Rom-Com Movie
Golden Globe nominee Cameron Diaz is finally making her rom-com comeback, more than a decade after starring in 2014’s The Other Woman. The Holiday actress has signed on for the leading role in Amazon MGM Studios‘ untitled fake marriage comedy movie from Emmy Award winner Stephen Merchant (The Office), who’s also attached to star.
What do we know about Cameron Diaz’s new rom-com movie?
Per Deadline, the project will be directed by Merchant, who co-wrote the screenplay with John Butler. It is produced by Lee Eisenberg and Merchant alongside Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fage, with Natalie Sandy serving as its executive producer. This marks Diaz’s latest collaboration with Rogen, after previously starring together in the 2011 superhero movie The Green Hornet.
“The untitled rom-com follows a workaholic Brit (Merchant) employed at an upscale New York hotel who needs a wife for appearances. He strikes a deal with a struggling stand-up comic (Diaz) who is desperate for health insurance. Their fake marriage starts as a transaction but ends in an unexpected romance,” reads the initial synopsis.
Following her acting comeback in last year’s Back in Action movie, Diaz will next be seen in another action comedy for Netflix, titled Bad Day, which is currently in production. She is also set to reprise her iconic role as Fiona in the highly anticipated Shrek 5 movie, which will premiere on June 30, 2027. In addition, Diaz will also be starring opposite Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in Apple’s black comedy film Outcome, which is also directed by Hill.
